Coverage will include lost property, trip interruption benefits

Trov announced today that is has partnered with Waymo to insure passengers of an autonomous ride-hailing service set to launch next year.

Trov will provide passengers with trip-based insurance coverage underwritten by a non-admitted affiliate of Munich Re. Coverage will include lost property, trip interruption benefits and medical expense reimbursement.

“Waymo is making personal transportation more effortless, and so it follows that all associated aspects of a journey—including insurance—should be equally painless, with passengers’ safety and peace of mind paramount,” Trov CEO Scott Walchek said in a news release.

Trov, a licensed insurance broker, provides on-demand insurance that allows customers to insure single items for as long as they wish using a mobile device. It is currently available in Australia and the U.K., and will launch in the U.S. (and possibly Canada) in 2018.

“Trov is pioneering a cutting-edge approach to insurance that’s ideal for ride-sharing because it’s customized for every trip,” said Shaun Stewart, Waymo’s director of operations. “As we prepare to launch a commercial service, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Trov to unlock the full potential of shared mobility.”
